My name is Andrew, I'm the husband/dad in this whole thing.  I was really hesitant to hire a doula. I have training as a paramedic and my wife and I took a 6 week class, so we knew it all.  Kind of felt like a waste of money, how hard could it be? My wife's water broke at 2 AM, and come lunch time, nothing had happened (our plan was to do as much early-labor at home, not at the hospital).  Jillian came over and started running my wife through a circuit hoping to get things rolling (I had the difficult job of helping where I could and watching the Redskins game).  Things started rolling at the house and we migrated to the hospital. At the hospital, Jillian was phenomenal.  She had a bag of goodies that helped my wife stay 'comfortable' during contractions which were great.  She coached me in ways to help my wife and support her.  
I can't say enough good things about Jillian as a doula.  She is extremely kind and available. 

From a former doula-skeptic, we absolutely recommend Jillian, they don't get much better.  We are so glad we had help.

Working with Jillian made my first pregnancy everything I could have hoped for and more! While my husband and I had a million questions and concerns, Jillian was always patient, kind, quick to respond and helped us understand all options available to us for our ideal birth through her expertise and resources. Through our meetings with Jillian she made us feel safe and comfortable with the new adventure and unknown that was ahead of us. The last 9 months would not have been as enjoyable, and I would not have felt as prepared and supported had Jillian not been by our side through this new adventure. I highly recommend Jillian's doula services to Mom's in the Winchester/WV area! Whether you're a first time mom or having your 2nd or 3rd baby, having Jillian's support and expertise as your doula is something that cannot be duplicated and is beyond invaluable.

I would like to thank Jillian on behalf of my wife and myself.  We wanted to spend as much of the labor at home as possible.  Jillian was immediately available when the active labor started. She came to our home and was able to comfort my wife's thoughts and feelings through the contractions.  Her expertise allowed me to perform duties around the house and pack the vehicle for the stay at the hospital.  ,  Jillian stayed with us for the duration of the labor and the birth of our daughter.  She had many suggestions and comforted Michele mentally and physically throughout the birth of our daughter.  Throughout the intense process of labor, Jillian provided us with massage tools, heating pads and aroma therapy to calm Michele's anxiety.  It was an easier transition into parenthood with a complication free delivery.

I had a great experience with Jillian! She not only helped me through the birthing process, but also provided the support my husband needed. When my labor did not progress as planned, she used techniques such as the miles circuit, among other things, that helped kick start things. She provided insight on what to expect and how to manage natural labor at the hospital. The equipment she had for comfort measures (exercise ball, heated rice sock, massage rollers) all helped me manage the pain. My husband and I both felt very comfortable with her. Couldn't have done it without her!

Jillian did a great job of being in constant communication with me. If I had questions, she responded factually, personally, and promptly. During my labor stages she did a wonderful job making sure I understood what was going on and things to help ease my discomfort. She helped me keep calm once we arrived at the hospital. Once I began pushing, she helped encourage me and helped me with "breathing" techniques so I could successfully push through.She stayed after the delivery to make sure I was comfortable and settled. This was not only my first birth, but my first doula experience and I am extremely grateful I had her as a resource! I definitely wouldn't have been able to get through the process as smoothly if we didn't have her!

Jillian has such a soothing and calming voice; she was encouraging me with comments about my good progress. She kept my husband calm. She reminded us of all the natural comfort measures we learned in birth class, like taking a warm shower. When I had a cervical lip, she used her wisdom to get me in a position to help that thin and melt away. She helped us make sure our birth plan was followed. During delivery she asked the staff for a birthing bar which helped me tremendously to use gravity to my advantage. After delivery she was helpful in getting us settle in mother/baby. We were so please with her.

From a husband's perspective - My wife first mentioned a doula and my initial reaction was what in the world is a doula? When she began to explain what a doula was I thought it was kind of silly and is this really necessary? I play along and agree to the initial consultation with Jillian and afterwards Im thinking this may not be such a bad idea - okay, sign us up! From that point forward, I was nothing but impressed with the attention to detail, thoughtfulness, encouragement, care and advice offered by Jillian to my wife and I. Jillian is all the things I am not (all the above) and prevented my wife from calling me expletives for not knowing what to do while going through labor and delivery. If we have another child, it goes without saying, Jillian will be there with us.

Jillian is an amazing human. She aided my husband and I through a 24 hour labor and was so attentive and astute right to the final push, and of course after! She quelled my fears as a first time mom and was there so that my husband could nap while I was still being supported throughout the long night. Her magical doula bag came to the rescue often with essential oils and techniques to ease pain and nausea.

We loved the Birth Boot Camp class! It was packed full of great information and tools. I think it has been the number one biggest contributor (more so than receiving care from Loudoun Community Midwives, orientation at the Inova Loudoun Natural Birth Center, or personal reading) to my husband and I feeling prepared and excited for a natural birth. Jillian did a great job presenting the information (much more interesting than sitting through the online class videos!). We selected Jillian as our doula right before starting class. I think it was an amazing added benefit to have weekly class to really get to know and form a relationship with her as our doula, rather than just one or two prenatal visits like we would have had if we selected a different doula.

We had a blast at birth camp with Jillian! She was not only our awesome instructor for classes but she's also our doula and now our friend! We are pretty in depth researchers but often times on the car ride home post class my husband and I were amazed at the info we had JUST learned! Birth boot camp gave us the confidence for an awesome birth!!! BRING IT ON!
